Stop Motion

I am currently doing some post production tests on my stop motion project that is due this wednesday. I am morphing each picture together so that the video looks less choppy. I can already tell that the pictures were taken too far apart. Using my friends as talent and camera operators does not work so well. They are impatient and have no idea what they are doing. After reviewing the stop motion pictures on my camera with them they became more exited about it though.
The possibilities of stop motion are unique. You can animate inanimate objects fairly simply. This can also be done using a greenscreen. It can look much better on a greenscreen because you don't have to take a picture for every frame and you have more layers to control. If I was to take pictures at a closer interval and blend each one together, I would think that it would look just like a movie. Retaining picture quality in a movie is another benefit to stop motion.
In the future I would like to make some sort of claymation. I'm pretty sure we were required to use a person as the subject for this assignment so my creativity was restricted. We also were required to display flying, skating, or snaking. These techniques are a little silly for my taste. They are kind of funny sometimes though.

This is a professional skate video that implemented animation into their teaser. I think it was effective in getting people excited because it was put together well and was unordinary.

  1. I had the same sort of challenges when shooting for my stop motion. My boyfriend was a relatively patient "actor," but I definitely felt like this would be a much easier project if I could clone myself and then I could direct, shoot, and act. I am working on building up my equipment, though, so that this wish can become more of a reality.

I'm interested to see you work, since I know (from a previous class) that video is your thing. I'd also like to know more about your process of using a greenscreen and the blending of your frames. This is beyond my level of experience, so I'm not sure exactly how your process works. I think doing a claymation is a great idea, though, and I look forward to seeing it!

  2. Ive had the problem of helpers impatience before. what Ive learned works the best for getting them to slow down and allow the project to mature correctly was to first show them others similar to it.

i'm completely in agreeance with the requirements for this video. having to actually use a human subjects been my stumbling point the entire way threw as i have few people i can actually get to cooperate with me. not to mention the one person i did get isn't keen on the jumping part and i cant really skate any one due to a lack of people...

  3. Yeah, I know what you guys mean about the whole patience thing. My friend look irritated after the first half hour. Claymation is really cool, I have always been jealous of people who have the patience to do really in-depth animations. I am a little experienced when it comes to stop animation, just not when I'm the subject though haha.

I'm curious to how yours will turn out after seeing your first project!
