Kinestasis

For my kinestasis study, I want my project to stand out from the rest. I plan on using the technique used in this music video where the hands create an environment. I have never done this before but I know I can figure it out.

For the story of the project, I am lost. My goal is just simply to create something that is fun to look at and then possibly come up with a story or dialogue from there. I might ask for help from my friends because I am not that creative in that sense.
I plan on taking a tree out of the picture's environment and copying it over and over and placing it in different depths. I'm not even sure that I want to use the picture as a whole, only pieces of it separately. I have already took the picture into photoshop and added color. It doesn't look great but it definitely and improvement from black and white.
I don't know how using the sounds from the folder we were given is going to help me. The only thing I can think of is creating a song or beat out of the random tones that the samples have to offer. I can make a beat out of anything that has sound. I really want to challenge myself to stay within that folder even though it is a major restriction. This will be a fun challenge.

  1. I am quite hesitant when it comes to being restricted as well. So are you kind of doing a piece where the tree stays the same but the environments change around it? That would look pretty cool if that's what you mean. I've been wanting to do a similar technique.

  2. well be glad you can make a beat out of anything, sounds always been my failure in things.

will be interesting on what you come up with, i feel like i must of follen out of the loop again as i thought we were restricted to using just the image provided by the teacher.

  3. @Andrew: that is correct. The instructions were to use the one image. Imposing restrictions for these studies is not a random decision. As mentioned in class a couple times, there is so much to learn when forced to work within set parameters, and even more so when the studies are reviewed together.

  4. I thought it was really interesting to see the different direction that everyone took with the same image. I think this project would be a good opportunity to try to think about sound in an abstract sense. My video had a sound loop that I made from the Noise file, but I don't think it was very successful. I think that you should consider combining many different sounds to create some unexpectedness.
